TU’s come together to launch the ‘EDIT – Inclusive Curriculum Toolkit’ for the TU sector

South East Technological University (SETU), Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and Munster Technological University (MTU) have announced the launch of a new inclusive curriculum toolkit for use across the TU sector. This toolkit has been developed as part of the Embedding Equality Diversity & Inclusion in the Curriculum of the new Technological University Sector (EDIT) Project and is designed to support the Technological University (TU) sector to implement inclusive curriculum principles across their universities. It is intended as a practical guide for use by departments to support them to embed equality, diversity, and inclusion in the curriculum and related areas of practice. It aims to make higher education in the sector an inclusive and positive experience that welcomes diverse students and supports them to succeed. The Technological Universities developed the toolkit with expertise available through Advance HE, and with funding from the Higher Education Authority under its Gender Equality Enhancement Fund.

The launch of the toolkit took place at the national Equitas – EDI in Higher Education Conference held in TUS last week. Speaking at the launch, Dr. Allison Kenneally, Vice President of South East Technological University, who were the project lead, said “this toolkit is the culmination of over two years work, and is the product of significant consultation with our colleagues across our universities. The toolkit is available for use to support inclusion of EDI within curricula content and delivery. We hope that it will help contribute to better experiences and outcomes for both our students and society.”

Dr Carol Wrenn, TUS EDI Manager and member of the EDIT Steering Group said “I am delighted that TUS was part of this collaborative project. The toolkit includes practical case study examples of the many ways to further embed EDI in programme design, delivery and assessment. It has been designed for staff to refer to at multiple stages of the curriculum.”
